History of Girl Guide Association of Srilanka
The Girl Guide Association of Sri Lanka was founded in 1917, and is part of the global Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting movement. The organization aims to develop the character and skills of girls and young women, and empower them to become responsible citizens of Sri Lanka and the world.
The first Girl Guide company in Sri Lanka was started by Miss Ruth Mitchell, an English woman who had been a member of the Girl Guide Association in England. In 1917, she arrived in Sri Lanka and started the first company in Colombo. The movement quickly grew in popularity, and by 1928, there were 1,200 Girl Guides in Sri Lanka.

In 1928, the Ceylon Girl Guide Association was officially registered, and the first annual general meeting was held. The first president of the organization was Lady Herbert Stanley, the wife of the Governor of Ceylon.
Over the years, the Girl Guide Association of Sri Lanka has grown to become one of the largest youth organizations in the country. It has played an important role in promoting the empowerment of girls and young women, and has been involved in a wide range of activities, including community service, environmental conservation, and disaster relief.

Today, the Girl Guide Association of Sri Lanka is a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, and has more than 40,000 members across the country. It continues to be a strong advocate for the rights and well-being of girls and young women in Sri Lanka.
