Eagle Scout Board Review

The Eagle Scout Board of Review is a final step in the process of becoming an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America program. It is a panel of experienced adult leaders who evaluate the Scout's readiness to become an Eagle Scout, based on his accomplishments, leadership skills, and character.

The Board of Review typically includes three to six members, including a chairman and other adult leaders from the Scout's unit or council. The Scoutmaster or other adult leaders may also be present as observers, but they do not participate in the questioning.

The Board of Review usually lasts about an hour and covers a wide range of topics related to the Scout's Scouting experience, including his leadership roles, service projects, merit badges, and personal growth. The Board may ask the Scout to describe his accomplishments, challenges, and future plans, as well as his understanding of the Scout Oath and Law and the values of Scouting.

During the Board of Review, the Scout should demonstrate that he has a strong sense of character, leadership, and service to others, and that he embodies the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law. He should also be able to articulate his personal growth and development as a result of his Scouting experience.

After the Board of Review, the panel will make a recommendation to the council advancement committee as to whether the Scout has successfully completed the requirements for the Eagle Scout rank. If the committee approves the recommendation, the Scout will be awarded the Eagle Scout rank at a formal Court of Honor ceremony.

It's important to note that while the Board of Review is a significant step in the process of becoming an Eagle Scout, it is not meant to be an intimidating or adversarial experience. Rather, it is an opportunity for the Scout to reflect on his Scouting experience and for the panel to evaluate his readiness to become an Eagle Scout.
